Today I have the pleasure of introducing to the JHPRunning audience Magaly Soto. I have been working with Magaly for just over a year now and can say without any doubt that Magaly might be one of the best Masters level runners in the country that you’ve never heard of!
One of my most proud accomplishments as a coach is helping Magaly to 2nd overall at the 2016 Dallas Marathon in a personal best time. Magaly is a joy to coach and is tough as nails…both are positive attributes when you are trying to run fast and win races!!!
On February 25th Magaly will be racing the Cowtown Marathon. I hope you enjoy this interview with Magaly as much as I have enjoyed coaching her…
1. When and how did you start running?
I stared running at age of 33 just for fun.
2. What are your current PRs for the road distances (5k, 10k, half, full)?
3. What are your goals for 2018?
My goals for this year is to run new PR’s. Especially in the marathon distance.
4. What are your major goal races for 2018?
My big goal races for this year are Cowtown , Boston and maybe St George, Utah and Dallas.
5. What have you learned about yourself from running over the past few years?
Running has taught me discipline, perseverance, courage, it has teaches me to get out of my comfort zone to push myself to things that I thought were not possible, to deal with pain and make it my friend.
6. What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who is looking to take the next step in their running, training, and racing?
My advice to someone is just run and enjoy it with joy in your soul, put the time and discipline in your training and good things will happen.

1. What is your favorite running shoe?
My favorite shoe right now is Altra Torin for the road and Superior for the trails.
2. What is your favorite workout?
My favorite work out is tempo runs and long runs.
3. What is the one piece of running equipment, not counting your shoes, that you cannot live without?
My running equipment that I can’t live without is my Garmin.
4. What runner are you most inspired by?
Jim Thorpe and Desi Davila (Linden).
5. What is your favorite post-marathon (or ultra or mountain race) meal?
A big burger and milkshake and lots of chocolate, I can really be bad with this! 🙂
