Winter tip #1.

Within the next week or two most school-aged runners, high school and collegiate, will be on their winter break. And there is no doubt that the winter training period is very important to having a great track season.

But, my first tip for the winter, is to relax.

This might sound counter-intuitive, especially after saying that there is no doubt that the winter training period is very important to have a great track season.

But the track season is a long one…for most college students you start back racing Indoors during early January and will race all of the way through the Conference Championships in Outdoors which are mid-May. High school students are starting their Outdoor seasons early February and can race post-Championship events all the way through May and in some states, outside of Texas, the Championship season might go into June!

So, during December and January, when you aren’t with your team…RELAX. Get in the work, be consistent, but keep it all relaxed. If you want to feel good in May, during the Championship season, then you want to make sure you feel good in December and January.

Keep it relaxed.
